Description
Pandanus species are often associated with holidays as they generally grow right on the beach (usually with full salt spray!)
Pandanus palm will need some room in a garden but is amazing as a stand alone feature plant, with some creative lighting they are spectacular. Pandanus species can be cut back and shaped into a neat screw pine shape. Pandanus do need space as they get wide and have tiny spikes on the leaves so best away from a walkway.
Pandanus trees are great when grown near a pool or on a rockery, they will require very good drainage and no frost at all.
Pandanus Utilis “Red Edge” is a little more ornamental of the two, it grows 3-5m tall, quite wide up to 3m, featuring beautiful lime leaves with red margins, lots of stilt roots form but not as many as P.Tectoris.
Pandanus Tectoris is the One you will see growing wild at Port Macquarie, Yamba, Byron bay often right on the cliffs and beachfront. Pandanus Tectoris is a lot larger and often is used in hotels and resorts for its amazing stilt roots often growing from right up in the canopy to the ground.
